Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site preserves Connemara, the 245-acre farm where Pulitzer Prize-winning author Carl Sandburg and his family lived the last 22 years of his life. The farm consists of a 22 room house, barns, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, trails, two small lakes, a trout pond, flower and vegetable gardens, and an orchard.

The Cradle of Forestry is a 6,500 acre National Historic Site within the Pisgah National Forest, set aside by Congress to commemorate the beginning of forestry conservation in the United States. The Center has an interactive exhibit hall, The Giving Tree Gift Shop and the Forest Bounty Cafe. Outdoor activities include two guided trails which lead you back in time to seven historical buildings, a 1915 Climax logging locomotive and the old sawmill. Thursdays through Sundays you may find a toy maker, a weaver, a quilter, a wood carver and a basket maker.

Lake Lure Community and Real Estate. Lake Lure is approximately 1,500 acres, with around twenty-seven miles of shoreline. National Geographic has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Located in Western North Carolina, Lake Lure sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge. East of Asheville, the Rocky Broad River tears its way in a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gap over a 600 foot waterfall in Chimney Rock. This crystal clear water flows through a valley shaped roughly in the form of a Maltese cross to make Lake Lure.
